Toys for Tots match 12.17.2014

Come join us for a great match and a great cause. We've reduced fees to only cover the costs of classification update and range fee. In exchange we ask that you bring a new, unwrapped toy or coat to help the less fortunate. With your help we can make a bunch of  kids happy this holiday season.

Temps are getting colder, leaves are getting bolder and the smell of smoke is in the air. That's our cue to kick off the indoor shooting season as the outdoor matches start winding down. As always registration will be open on Sunday at 8:00 AM for Alpha members and 8:00 PM for non members. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday.

McHenry IPSC Elections

The old range... We've grown since...

I wanted to take a moment out to thank everyone who has contributed to the club: You guys make the difference! You guys come out and keep the club alive!

I'd especially like to thank Kerry Dean, who did an admirable job as our first real active club president!

See, not long ago, 2007 to be exact, the club was just a ragtag group of people that shot some USPSA classifiers once in a while. There was a lack of club policy regarding stages, setup, scoring, etc. In essence, there was a lack of seriousness regarding the sport.

This began to change when Kerry, Tom and I started to really get serious about growing the club by moving it to On-Target, then Alpha, bringing more involved stages to the club and encouraging people to start taking the shooting a bit more seriously.

Today, we've evolved into a club with a slew of honest-to-goodness badass shooters that are working on getting to the upper echelons of the sport. Good job, guys!

All that said, we have some issues facing the club, one of the largest being the cap on match sizes and dates. With this in mind, I'm going to create a committee to explore potential solutions and factors that'll influence the situation - Specifically, I'm curious how GTR Ranges in Waukegan coming on line will impact our match attendance.

I'd like to get more new shooters into the sport, but recognize that my job as president is to keep running high quality matches for the current membership of the club - this is going to be a tough balancing act.

Onward to a great 2014-2015 Season!

Summer Workday - July 2nd, 2014

We've got a bunch of tasks to take care of around the old range, much of it just taking apart our old snow fenced walls, repairing steel, cleaning the conex and sorting wood sticks. Additionally, we'll have a fun match for folks that come and help out!

So... Fire up the grill, get the weiners, and come on out! (Bring some work gloves and ratty clothing)

This is our final match of the season!

After the match, we'll head over to Firewood Grill in McHenry where we've reserved a room for an end of season banquet. 2314 Rt 120, McHenry, IL (~5 minutes, a little east of the river...)

The club will pick up the tab on Pizza, Wings, domestic pitchers!

After some food and fun, we'll vote on Club President and additional bylaws, have a discussion.

If you're eligible to vote, the match director has sent you an email stating that you've shot enough matches.

Well, we're coming upon the midway point of the winter season.(Traditionally, we've shot until May.) This year we'll probably continue through the summer, but at a reduced frequency, maybe one match a month.

Aww man!

I hope the folks at the Fox Hole Pizzeria are/were ok...

MCHENRY, Ill. (STMW) – At least 31 people were in need of shelter Sunday morning after a fire broke out at a northwest suburban McHenry apartment building.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 11:35 a.m. at the three-story building housing 40 apartment units at 3308 W. Elm St. in McHenry, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

The entire building was rendered uninhabitable, fire officials said. Called the Riverside Hotel, it was also home to the Fox Hole Tap & Pizzeria.

No one was injured in the fire, but 31 people were displaced and the McHenry County Housing Authority and the American Red Cross were called the scene for housing assistance, fire officials said. People sought shelter in a local school bus at the scene while firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire started in a three-room unit on the second floor of the building, fire officials said. It was contained to that room and extinguished within 19 minutes.

But there was smoke damage throughout the entire building and an office located on the first floor directly underneath the fire, and also the Fox Hole restaurant in the basement, had significant water damage, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was unknown Sunday night as fire officials and the McHenry Police Department investigated.
