Starting next year (next match, really) we're going to limit participation to:
1.) A.) USPSA members that have earned a classification in any USPSA division.

B.) IDPA members that are classified in any IDPA division.

C.) IPSC member that are classified in any IPSC division.

D.) Individuals that have demonstrated to McHenry USPSA RO's a safe drawstroke, muzzle awareness, and the basic understanding of the rules of the sport (scoring, safety, rules) in a session preceding a match, usually at an preceding the match the competitor intends to shoot.
2.) Unverified competitors will absolutely not be allowed to participate.

Housekeeping
Well... That sorta worked: Running larger squads got most of us out on time, but the squad of RO's still managed to eat up too much time, especially with load out falling on a smaller number of guys.
The solution seems to be two large squads that'll swap ranges - RO's will just shoot as part of their respective squads or something...
Also, heading to BWW after the bulk of the crowd was gone was just no fun...
Lastly, we'd like to encourage folks to remember the 4 cardinal safety rules:
1.) All firearms are loaded.
2.) Don't point the firearm at anything you don't want to see destroyed.
3.) Finger off the trigger until ready to engage.
4.) Be sure of you target and what is behind it.
Breaking the 180-degree angle in USPSA is an automatic disqualification since it is essentially a rule 2 violation.
Please be safe - we all want to go home with the same number of holes as we came with!

Two Slots
I made a mistake with ticket amount - there are two slots open for 12/5/2012 match (tomorrow)!
Overwhelmed!
Had two comments pop up on the last post and several folks email me about slots/space/selling out/etc - I really think I need to chime in here about this...
I'm still uber-shocked that our little club essentially sells out consistently! When I first started with MISS, we were lucky to get the 15 shooters we needed to cover the range fees and the targets!
With the swelling of interest in action pistol and our practical limitation with the venue, the cap is necessary. Additionally, I truly believe that it would suck more for both me and you if I had to tell you, in person, on the night of the match, that we were full, especially after you drove all the way from ? to get to Crystal Lake...
Lastly, given our past experience running 2 late-start squads, we were still getting out too late. Hence the change to two 15-person squads starting at 7PM.
Until OnTarget expands and decides to open an additional bay or two (we can hope, right!?) we're going to have to keep things as they are...
PS. Pine Tree's 8AM squad "sold out" pretty quickly this past weekend!

We've decided that our current, stagger-start, 4-squad approach isn't yielding the results that we really wanted; we're starting too late and the later squads are pushed too far to the limit. As a result, we've gone back to two squads, beginning at 7PM - a squad of RO's and staff will shoot afterwards and tear down the ranges.
Additionally, RO's will be dedicated to the ranges to ensure that stages are run smoothly and with the same penalties and etc.

A hit factor of 6 is a 96% run in production - so 10 seconds with perfect hits...

Stages for November 7th, 2012
We'll be running 4 squads of ~10 shooters. The 6:30 squads are asked to help with setup and the 8:15 squads are asked to help with teardown.
Since we have both ranges, we should be able to get out on time.

Our Trailer - Practiscore!
MISS, and our sister club, McIDPA, now have a trailer to haul things to-and-from On Target!

This trailer and I share many fine memories: The club(s) purchased it off of Team Spartan, where I've been an adjunct instructor for some time. I've slept in this trailer, fit more steel than I know is physically possible into this trailer, and have know that John Krupa takes care of his equipment as well has he takes care of his people... You'll see the stickers, my name tag among them, on the door...
Setup a few test matches using PractiScore and we're all set! There are some kinks with the squadding and syncing system, but, overall, things are AWESOME!!

Updates: Moving to PractiScore!

October 24, 2012 Results
We've got good news: On Target is going to let us use both bays starting at 6:30 PM! This should help alleviate some of the issues we've had with late starts and the like.

October 24, 2012 Match
We've had to change the format in which we run the match:
We'll have two larger squads (of ~20), one setting up the Rifle bay at 6:45 and one setting up the Pistol bay starting at ~7:45. We figure this'll get out a bit earlier than last time (we ran until 11:30 PM! - thanks to those that helped cleanup: It is much appreciated!) Please help paste targets and keep the match progressing!!
Registration and safe area will be upstairs. Please come upstairs and get checked in when you get there. We'll let you know where to go and what to do from there!
We'll be running 4 stages - two short ones and two longer ones.
Rifle Bay:
Under Duress - 26 rd Comstock course.
Haunted House - 27 rd Comstock course.
Pistol Bay:
Stretch - 18 rd Virginia count course
Bookout's Boogie - CM 99-57, Comstock 12 rd course.

22 rds, 110 pts, Comstock.
10 metric & 2 mini-poppers.
Standing facing down range, toes on "X's", handgun is loaded and holstered. On start signal, engage targets from behind the fault line.

4 metric targets.
Standing in any box, hand relaxed at sides, gun is loaded and holstered. From Box A, engage T1 with 6 rounds, and T2 with 2 rounds. From Box B, engage T3 with 6 rounds and T2 with 2 rounds. In order to ensure that folks understand what is going on, please read this first, then check back for registration that will open at 8:15 PM tonight!
Regarding Squadding:
- Due to the layout and availability of the bays at On Target, we've decided that easiest most efficient way to move shooters through is to stagger start times:
- There will be 3 squads, starting at 7PM, ~7:45 PM, and ~8:30 PM.
- The 7PM squad is required to help setup stages for the other two. Since they will complete sooner, it is not necessary for them to stay until teardown.
- The 7:45PM and 8:30PM squads will both complete between 9:15 and 9:30. They will each be required to teardown one bay.
- Please be on time for your squads start time! If you are late, we will let you shoot with your squad, but may not allow you to make up missed stages. (This hasn't been an issue in the past...)
- If you aren't on the squad shooting, please stay out of the range. If you have a question, see one of the match directors and they can take you through the range.
Regarding Registration and Check-in:
- Please come upstairs to receive your scoresheet/verify your information.
- The only "gear-up" and safety area where you will be able to practice your draws will be upstairs, facing the designated wall - please remember that competitors are not allowed handle their holstered firearms outside their safety area. On Target's "for sale" firearms handled at the gun counters are, of course, ok.
Range Etiquette
- The new ventilation system at On Target is AWESOME, but very sensitive. The double-door system exists to ensure that there is an effective pressure gradient in the range. If doors are left open for too long (even a few minutes!) the pressure sensor will shut off the ventilation, requiring a 20 minute restart process. With this in mind:
- Please ensure that the outer (store-facing) door has closed completely before you begin to open the range door. Failure to do so will result in an immediate DQ.
- Please do not stack your gear on the back range walls. Interference with the down draft will mess up the pressure sensors. Please use the range points instead to stack your gear.
- Guys handling load in: please be careful to keep the airlocks too! We'll have to bring steel and other gear in one bit at a time...

Changes for the 2012-2013 Season
Since our club has grown so fast in the previous two years - we've essentially tripled - and since we've pretty much exhausted the capacity of venue we've used for the past several years, the directors of MISS had to explore options and make a choice to move the club to a new venue.
We lobbied pretty hard and presented our situation to the next closest range, the folks at On Target, and they agreed to host our matches!
These changes are for the better:
- Multiple bays ensures that we can accommodate more shooters
- Larger bays allows us to present more challenging indoor stages
- A robust ventilation system ensures that regular's lead exposure is kept to a minimum
- Computer controlled targets allows us to run fixed-time stages as a line and with ease
- Location is a bit friendlier for Chicagoans coming to compete
Additionally, we've strived to keep the price of our matches contained, only increasing our match fee to $20.00.
Matches will run a bit differently than usual. The biggest difference is a shift from Thursday night to Wednesday nights. Additionally, we're still working out a few details on how to stage shooters, where to keep gear, etc, but we will stay with online registration and will turn away walk-in's. As we sort the situation out, we'll be capping our matches at 40 competitors and we'll have to play a bit with the dates.

Thanks for a Great 2011-2012 Season!
Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot with us this past year!
We've had a record number of shooter come on out this year - a lot of new faces too! Sadly we're MISS-ing a few old familiars and hope they come back too!
This season, we also managed to hold elections for the first time in a number of years. Congrats to Kerry Dean for becoming the new President of MISS. Additionally, many thanks to Julie Scheibe who pretty much saved the club from extinction a few years ago.
Tom Palmer and Les Kismartoni also retained their positions as Range Master and Match Director, respectively.
Our next match should be on October 4th, 2012 - in the meantime, if you're looking for something to do/somewhere to shoot, check out WIILSHOOT.COM!

We'll have the steel setup and will run 8 squads of 5 man double elimination settings. (You'll get two tries before you're booted). Winner of each heat will receive a Safariland 1/2 off card, valid at Holsters.com, to be awarded at the "banquet".
Folks, show up with your magazines loaded and get ready to speed through this: Don't hold up the line!

Before we charge ahead into the scores, I've uploaded a tentative copy of proposed bylaws up to Google Docs. Check 'em out here.

2.) Find out who nominees are
3.) Determine what constitues "club membership"
4.) Set a date for election (probably 5/31/2012 "banquet")

Stages and Registration for April 5, 2012
Hi All,
A while a go we broached a poll asking if people would like to continue to shoot through the summer. As we're now moving into the last two months of our regular season, I'd like to point out that we're still trying to explore the feasibility of this. As soon as we figure something out, I'll let ya'll know...
Stages
1.) We'll be running 24 round Comstock course of fire with Leaners
2.) Classifier CM 99-48, "Tight Squeeze"

It was an exciting night!!
We saw some creative "throwdowns": strong & weak alternating shooting, full "homey" (sideways) shooting, and retention shooting. Jay C. and Tony Al. had a number of great runs, but, in the end, Les and Kerry duke'd it out and ended 1st and 2nd, respectively.
Rob S. bested Email K. to win the prize, a cap gun valued at $1,000,000.00!! Way to go Rob! Better than winning the lotto!

3.) I'll be at Rogers Shooting Academy for the next match, then shooting the Friends of the Wounded Warrior Benefit match (IDPA) - so I won't see a lot of you... Wish Kozy and I luck!
